Mackinnons review of Matley Wood, New Forest
Lovely site right amongst the forest ponies. Mainly wooded site, you choose your own pitch and there's room to play some games too. There is direct access to the forest where you can cycle and play rounders/cricket etc. Nice quiet site with Lyndhurst a short drive away.

Pandabloke review of Matley Wood, New Forest
stayed here for two nights at the end of the Jubilee weekend, having come from the sister Setthorns site. My unit is a Conway Excel F/C and I camp alone - well accompanied by Arnold the cuddly Panda (see our Setthorns review). On arrival you sign in at Denny Wood, across the road, given instructions by the splendid wardens, then are basically left to your own devices to find a pitch and set up, which is great! There are no set pitches, just areas, if you like, and Arnold chose a fine spot under a tree which he could laze against, promptly fell asleep and left me to set up. Site was virtually fully booked but despite that there was plenty of room for children to play and plenty of areas to choose from. It's about a 30min amble into Lyndhurst which has an excellent camping store (and numerous splendid pubs, Arnold tells me...) lIn fact, like all these Forest sites, it is handy for exploring all of the New Forest. During our brief rainy stay a foal actually strolled into the sun canopy! Arnold then proceeded to try and chat up it's mother - typical.... Hey, it's rained - but it doesn't matter. The scenery and wildlife (not just Arnold) are worth it. Bring a chemical lavvie and a camera and just enjoy. Why 5 stars for the facilities? Cos what it said you get - (not much) - were as they said, no EHU (Arnold couldn't use his hair drier so that was a sulky afternoon, I can tell you), no toilets, no showers, but I wasn't expecting them. But all in all, a fine site. A word of warning however, the main gate is locked at 10.30. Have you ever tried to carry a drunk Panda from the nearby car park, through the trees and back to your unit to the accompanying inebriated singing of Sweet Molly Malone? Oh and if you see a fat Panda lurking as you cook your fry up, please don't feed him - you'll never get rid of him...
