The New Forest is a place where nature thrives and can been seen throughout the forest. One of the biggest attractions for staying in the New Forest is seeing the wild animals. The ponies have lived in the New Forest for more than a 1000 years, they are watched over but live completely independently finding their own food and water. The ponies usually have a very calm temperament, but out of the 4500 it's not surprising that some of them have developed behaviour that can be unpredictable and sometimes dangerous. Below are a few top tips to stay safe around the ponies: Never feed or touch the ponies If a pony approaches you move away to a safe distance Avoid coming between a mother and her foal Keep all food locked away For more information on staying safe, please view the Forestry Commission guide on Pony Safety in the New Forest.
