The New Forest Centre is a free admission venue and is the gateway to the National Park. It’s the place to go to learn about the forest’s past, present and future, with stories told by stunning artwork and the rousing reference library. The New Forest Centre reveals the natural and social history of the area and gives you the opportunity to find out more about the iconic New Forest Pony. You can book your stay close by at one of our New Forest Campsites.
The Museum
Explore the New Forest Centre museum and marvel at the attractive artwork on display. Experience the sights and sounds of the Beaulieu Road Pony Sales, an all-action auction event where you can catch a glimpse of noble New Forest ponies. Then, step back in time at the traditional Cob Cottage.
The museum is packed with fun-filled activities, including the Family Fun Tree at the heart of the venue. Learn how to detect wildlife by playing the extremely exciting ‘whose poo?’ game. Admire the weird and wonderful, gigantic creepy crawlies and have a go at some good, old-fashioned bark rubbing.
For a bit of light refreshment, pull up a chair at the Tip, Leaf and Bean Café. With a selection of hot drinks, tasty treaty and lite bites, you can relax, refresh and re-energise.
The Reference Library
Venture to the top level of the New Forest Centre to find the jaw-dropping reference library, which contains the largest collection of classical works written about the forest. A magnificent representation of the past, many historians, researchers and students have sought answers in this grand library.
With an ever-expanding repertoire of books, maps, photographs and reports, the reference library is bursting with history that is truly enlightening. Don’t miss the collection covering natural history and the works of renowned medieval forest specialist, David Stagg.

A tour of the New Forest Centre will inspire you, and you won’t be able to wait to venture into the woodlands. With an incredible calendar of events every year and a rousing tale to tell of New Forest history, the New Forest Visitor Centre is the perfect place to begin your National Park adventure! Opening times are 10am - 5pm every day until until 28th October inclusive and 10am - 4pm at other times. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing.
