Ashurst campsite is a rich blend of the true forest camping experience alongside traditional open pitches. Dotted with ancient oaks, which become denser as you close in on the forest’s edge, it's a site where you can truly soak up the New Forest ambience and enjoy it's unique character along with the historic New Forest ponies which roam freely on site.
Ashurst campsite boasts 280 standard pitches, ranging from open spaces to peaceful secluded spots amongst the trees. Regardless of where you camp, you’ll always have a piece of the beauty within reach.

Like with many of our New Forest campsites, you can take off straight into the forest onto one of the many waymarked routes, meaning you’re never far from the local flora and fauna, a relaxing stroll or the opportunity to explore.

Set on the edge of a small area of woodland known as Ashurst Wood, our Ashurst campsite is a short walk from Matley Heath, an expanse of New Forest heathland criss-crossed with tracks perfect for walking or cycling.

Just a five minute stroll away is the pretty village of Ashurst, where you will find shops, traditional pubs and welcoming restaurants. Local attractions include the Longdown Activity Farm and The New Forest Wildlife Park.

Clean, friendly and peaceful, Ashurst is the secluded campsite you’ve been looking for. Take a look at the extra information we’ve provided in the tabs above and book now.

Please Note:

Dogs are not allowed on this site, due to ground nesting birds. (Guide dogs will be allowed)

Any barbecues used on our sites should be specifically designed and used only for the purpose of cooking food (i.e not firepits). They should be robust, secure and able to be raised off of the forest floor, there should no damage or marks left on the ground where they have been used. In support of the New Forest Action Plan we are asking campers not to bring disposable barbecues for their stay. We are also reminding campers that outside of our sites no barbecues of any kind are now allowed anywhere in the New Forest.

Please do not feed, pet or approach the animals in and around the campsite; they may look friendly but are unpredictable and can bite and kick. Please keep all food sealed and out of reach of the ponies

Facilities available at Ashurst Campsite, New Forest

Amazing short stay
/
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ashurst camp site. When we arrived we were checked in by a very friendly lady, given some tips about the wildlife (ponies in particular) and told we were free to choose any pitch we liked which was perfect! We set up in a small area shielded by bushes but close to the facilities. The facilities block was extremely clean at all times and had lots of toilets/ sink and dressing rooms/ and showers which were lovely and hot along with a laundry room (didnt use) and a washing up room which was really handy for your crockery after meals. They also have a wall hairdryer but in my opinion is nowhere near powerful enough so stuck to the dry shampoo for 2 days instead! The campsite was perfect and the added novelty of the new forest ponies and cows wandering through was lovely. There are lots of trails that can be accessed through the bottom of the campsite and a couple of pubs within a few minutes walk across the field! We found the price reasonable with all the facilities included and would love to return next summer 😄

Lovely place!
/
My partner & I camped in Ashurst campsite for 3 nights under oak trees & loved it. The ground is tough, you have to bring tough tent pegs! The staff are lovely & the toilet/shower blocks are super clean & in good condition. There is a train track nearby but it didn’t bother us or keep us awake. Pubs/short forest walks/cafes in close walk-in distance, a bigger village/longer walks in a short driving distance. Would recommend & stay here again

Totally positive

We stayed for a night at Ashurst campsite in a tent and absolutely loved it. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the facilities were clean and most of all, the setting was like heaven on earth! It was really easy for us to explore the New Forest from there. Would 100% stay again or recommend to a friend.

Great end of Summer break
/
Our last chance for Summer camping at Ashurst in the New Forest. We camped for two nights with a group of friends and had a lovely time. As previously, the staff were very welcoming when we arrived and during our stay. As previously, the facilities were spotless and really well run. We arrived early and pitched at the edge of the campsite facing open woodland. A lovely spot and would highly recommend. Thank you Ashurst.

Camping at Ashurst
/
My wife and I along with my Cousin and his wife had an excellent stay at Ashurst Campsite apart from the fact that at least one of the ponies found its way into our awning while we were out. The awning was zipped closed, and yes, we were warned by the Camp Site Staff when we arrived, but we had no idea that they could open zips and then proceed to eat everything inside. How are campers that arrive on foot or local transport supposed to keep their food safe. I absolutely love seeing the wild life in the New Forest, which is why I go there, but when they become a pest, something really needs to be done about it.

Too noisy and no flat spaces to camp
/
Had high hopes for this site after great experiences at Hollands but this site was not the best. Won't go again. Toilet block was excellent but after that...no flat pitches for our large tent despite paying for XL (and stuff said site not busy), noisy people next door camping in groups spreading until they virtually touched our tent (no-one checking) but worst by far are the trains. The track runs metres away from the site and is busy all day until very late, then early next day. Got very little sleep. We paid £82 (only 2 ad & 2 kids, 1 car). More than a Premier Inn.

Lovely campsite so
/
We stayed 3 nights as we were visiting the Southampton Boat Show. Upon arrival the staff member was really friendly and informative. We could literally choose our pitch and were warned that to the left of the site there was a train line, so if you didn't want noise issue to find a pitch further away. Shower block and toilets fairly basic but served the purpose but would have liked some electric points within it for hairdryer etc. The position was fantastic for us as we could have the peace and quiet of the site, but within 10 mins you can be in Southampton. Train station 2 mins walk away from the site. Pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance, our favourites were The Happy Cheese and the Indian Asha. Would definitely stay here again.

A lovely site in an authentic New Forest setting
/
A really nice site with impressively clean facilities & loads of space to pitch. There was some road noise but not really a problem. The ponies wandering across the site was a real novelty & quite entertaining!

Super location, great facilities, friendly staff team, definitely recommend :)
/
Great campsite in the middle of the New Forest, good clean facilities, friendly staff team. We were able to choose our own pitch and loved being around the Horses and cows who were roaming around the site. Super walks and easy access to the local town and pubs. Highly recommend. We will definitely come back :)
