Ashurst campsite is a rich blend of the true forest camping experience alongside traditional open pitches. Dotted with ancient oaks, which become denser as you close in on the forest’s edge, it's a site where you can truly soak up the New Forest ambience and enjoy it's unique character along with the historic New Forest ponies which roam freely on site.
Ashurst campsite boasts 280 standard pitches, ranging from open spaces to peaceful secluded spots amongst the trees. Regardless of where you camp, you’ll always have a piece of the beauty within reach.

Like with many of our New Forest campsites, you can take off straight into the forest onto one of the many waymarked routes, meaning you’re never far from the local flora and fauna, a relaxing stroll or the opportunity to explore.

Set on the edge of a small area of woodland known as Ashurst Wood, our Ashurst campsite is a short walk from Matley Heath, an expanse of New Forest heathland criss-crossed with tracks perfect for walking or cycling.

Just a five minute stroll away is the pretty village of Ashurst, where you will find shops, traditional pubs and welcoming restaurants. Local attractions include the Longdown Activity Farm and The New Forest Wildlife Park.

Clean, friendly and peaceful, Ashurst is the secluded campsite you’ve been looking for. Take a look at the extra information we’ve provided in the tabs above and book now.

Please note: Any barbecues used on our sites should be specifically designed and used only for the purpose of cooking food (i.e not firepits). They should be robust, secure and able to be raised off of the forest floor, there should no damage or marks left on the ground where they have been used. In support of the New Forest Action Plan we are asking campers not to bring disposable barbecues for their stay. We are also reminding campers that outside of our sites no barbecues of any kind are now allowed anywhere in the New Forest.

Please do not feed, pet or approach the animals in and around the campsite; they may look friendly but are unpredictable and can bite and kick. Please keep all food sealed and out of reach of the ponies

Facilities available at Ashurst Campsite, New Forest

Please note that Ashurst is one of our two campsites (the other is Denny Wood) that does not allow you to bring your canine (or other pet) friends.

A large and brilliant campsite Lots of space, camp where you want Barbecues but no wood fires One of the best toilet and shower facilities ever and horses and ponies just wandering around
Unit Type: Caravan
Lovely friendly site
This was a lovely campsite, with a friendly welcome & clean facilities. Enjoyed the company of the ponies!
Unit Type: Tent
Lived up to expectations
Had a great 3 night stay here in September, very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent location in the forest, ponies and cattle wander through. Two pubs within walking distance, we tried the New Forest Inn which was good. Ashurst railway station is next door which is convenient but obviously you do get some train noise but it wasnt intrusive. Showers nice and hot and always kept clean. Would definitely use again. No electric hook ups but wasn't a problem for us.
Unit Type: RV Motorhome
Lovely campsite
Well looked after and clean campsite. Staff were very friendly and very helpful. The toilets were kept clean, no rubbish lying around anywhere and the grounds were in good condition. It’s a good location with pubs and shops not too far away, lovely scenery and some beautiful horses. I would recommend to anyone to stay here :)

A Lovely Stay in a Lovely Campsite.
Booked on the Thursday and were there on the Friday! Booking online was hassle free, and all the staff were lovely from arrival through until we left. Big campsite with loads of places to pitch up whilst leaving enough room between each for some privacy which I was impressed with given it was rather busy. Showers were hot and clean, toilets were lovely and clean and are clearly maintained regularly throughout the day. Worth noting that you can hear the trains throughout the day and night, but not personally something that bothers me. Handy to have the train station right next door for exploring the New Forest on a wider scale than cycling allows. 2 pubs just up the road which could not be better placed for easy access to food and a few drinks! Would happily stay again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We don't usually go to,such large sites but were staying to attend a family wedding nearby. The site owners and staff were so friendly and helpful in giving us taxi numbers to get to the wedding and even giving me an electric point to straighten my hair under the trees! First time for everything! We had a really nice spot to camp facing out to the forest. Traffic noise is quite loud but I guess it's just what you are used to. I'd happily return here for a more chilled stay to just enjoy the surroundings. Facilities are spot in and very clean. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Excellent site
We only stayed 3 nights but have previously stayed longer at this site Staff very helpful and lovely surroundings Heated cloakrooms in the morning with nice hot showers pity other visitors leave the door open, obviously not environment conscious
Unit Type: Motorhome
Need more info on website
Had all the rules and information been listed on the website we would have chosen to go elsewhere. The real disappointment of this campsite is the railway there isnt really anywhere you can get away with it and during peak times the only pitches left are just metres from the railline so no chance of sleep. Also reading on the website it said you were allowed fires if raised off the ground... Upon arrival we were informed absokutely no wood fires allowed to me this is a major part of camping and felt this should have been stated online after all i had bought lots of wood for a fire which is now wasted.
