Holmsley campsite occupies part of what used to be Holmsley Airfield in WWII - one of 12 New Forest wartime airfields and Advanced Learning Grounds. Now with a slightly different role, the site accommodates thousands of campers every year, offering them a beautiful and unique forest base for camping holidays and outdoor activities.

A beautifully open campsite, Holmsley offers the perfect location to take in the stunning forest views. Surrounded by ancient trees on all sides, and sitting next to a large heathland, it takes advantage of the beauty and outdoor escapes the New Forest has to offer.

Its history is reflected in its landscape - large open fields dotted with trees - reminding you that you’re in one of England’s most amazing woodlands. Pitches can be found nestling amongst the trees in their own secluded areas or sitting in open fields, allowing full appreciation of the forest in all directions.

The site is predominantly grass, so as well as exploring the forest, children have plenty of space to play in.

Camp at Holmsley and you’ll have the opportunity to take off straight into the forest on foot or by bike and enjoy its miles of tracks and footpaths. There is a fully equipped shop on site selling groceries including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, camping essentials and games.

The rural villages of Burley and Bransgore are close by and not much further are Christchurch, New Milton and Bournemouth making Holmsley campsite the perfect base from which to explore the forest’s more urban neighbours.

Of course being close to Bournemouth also means the campsite is close to the coast, and so pristine beaches and blustery coastline walks await at Rally Barton on Sea, Bournemouth, Poole and everywhere in between.

For more information on things to do in the New Forest and the towns that surround it, take a look at our information pages.

Staff very helpful, dog friendly site. Old RAF airfield with plenty of history. Close to trails through the forest so ideal for walks. Not too far from Bucklers Hard and Beaulieu motor museum. On site shop has good stock and take away facility. Overall good place to stay in NF.

Fab site

This site is amazing for someone like me single traveller with dog. The facilities are great, washing machines, tumble dryer, well stocked shop & the friendliest group of wardens. Lovely forest walks & yet local to nice villages & main towns. Spacious site & love you can choose your pitch. Will definitely be back next year many thanks

Sadly very wet time
/
It poured for hours, everywhere was wet and muddy, but the dog thought all that mud and water was great! Despite the weather, the toilet blocks were kept clean and warm. The staff were their happy selves. The shop was running down stock for the end of the season, but that was to be expected and didn't affect us . As always we had a wonderful break in the beautiful New Forest. Wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Good facilities and friendly staff

Despite the weather we had an enjoyable stay. Staff were great. Shower and toilet facilities very good as were the shop and cafe. Very good walking straight out of the campsite. The walk over to Burley via Holmsley Inclosure recommended.

Nice Place with Shop

Found all staff very helpful at all times and having the food take away with good food, also shop had most things we wanted and not to over priced.
Unit Type: Tent
Cats
/
The site is very good, ideally positioned, very good clean facilities, very good shop and hot food. There were several cats roaming the site, not sure who they belonged to but as this is a forest site with wild animals and especially birds around I would think that it is not a good idea to allow cats on the site.

New forest break
/
My wife and I stayed for the weekend and enjoyed the relaxing and tranquil Campsite within the new forest. We took a relaxing walk from the site to Burley. There we discovered there was a steam and vintage fayre. Burley is a lovely and quaint village within the new forest with pubs and local shops. It was our first stay on this site and found both the staff and facilities first class. 😁

Lovely Site
/
I was rather worried about staying at this site due to some poor reviews. I needn’t have worried! Unfortunately we can only stay one night, but we will be back. Friendly and helpful wardens. It’s a lovely but unusual Setting on an old airfield. It has a lovely feel about it. I much prefer it to the clinical and expensive MH&CC site we’ve just been on (Black Knowl) which was soulless and just rows of mainly caravans, and £10 a night more expensive! This site is open but next to forest and heath and great for wildlife. There are 3 Toilet blocks which were better than I’d imagined and all very clean. There is a large shop selling camping equipment, food, fresh bread, wine & beer AND it has a takeaway open from 8-5. 15 and 5 stars for food hygiene. We had a great breakfast. The ground was dry even after 24 hours of solid rain. Loved it! And if you think I’m easily pleased, you need to read my other reviews-I am rather picky!
