Holmsley campsite occupies part of what used to be Holmsley Airfield in WWII - one of 12 New Forest wartime airfields and Advanced Landing Grounds. Now with a slightly different role, the site accommodates thousands of campers every year, offering them a beautiful and unique forest base for camping holidays and outdoor activities.

A beautifully open campsite, Holmsley offers the perfect location to take in the stunning forest views. Surrounded by ancient trees on all sides, and sitting next to a large heathland, it takes advantage of the beauty and outdoor escapes the New Forest has to offer.

Its history is reflected in its landscape - large open fields dotted with trees - reminding you that you’re in one of England’s most amazing woodlands. Pitches can be found nestling amongst the trees in their own secluded areas or sitting in open fields, allowing full appreciation of the forest in all directions.

The site is predominantly grass, so as well as exploring the forest, children have plenty of space to play in.

Camp at Holmsley, and you’ll have the opportunity to discover the forest nearby along miles of stunning waymarked tracks and footpaths. Why not try a scenic ride along the National Cycle Route from Holmsley Walk car park to the beautiful, bustling village of Brockenhurst, within the heart of the New Forest.

The rural villages of Burley and Bransgore are also close by and not much further are Christchurch, New Milton and Bournemouth making Holmsley campsite the perfect base from which to explore the forest’s more urban neighbours.

Of course being close to Bournemouth also means the campsite is close to the coast, and so pristine beaches and blustery coastline walks await at Rally Barton on Sea, Bournemouth, Poole and everywhere in between.

When visiting the New Forest, please follow the New Forest Code to help us care and look after this unique place for everyone to enjoy. Find out how here.

Any barbecues used on our sites should be specifically designed and used only for the purpose of cooking food (i.e. not firepits). They should be robust, secure and able to be raised off of the forest floor, there should be no damage or marks left on the ground where they have been used. In support of the New Forest Action Plan, we are asking campers not to bring disposable barbecues for their stay. We are also reminding campers that outside of our sites, no barbecues of any kind are now allowed anywhere in the New Forest.

Please do not feed, pet or approach the animals in and around the campsite; they may look friendly but are unpredictable and can bite and kick. Please keep all food sealed and out of reach of the ponies.

Super campsite, great location, lots of space, good facilities, kind & friendly staff.
Love staying on this former World War RAF site, and the fact that the campsite now incorporates some of the old runways and dispersal points is wonderful. Perfectly located, direct in the New Forest, a treasure trove of wildlife, flora and fauna. A large site, but always feels spacious and peaceful. Good, adequate facilities. And helpful, kind & friendly staff. A real gem. Thank you.

Weekend away
I found holmsley to be a bit disappointing the pitches are really small and everyone is on top of each other and for the price paid it just wasn’t worth it.
Unit Type: Caravan
Spacious lovely site, despite being a large site it didn't feel crowded at all
The site was a very pleasant surprise. We had assumed that it would quite open and maybe rather crowded. However, although there were a lot of outfits onsite, they were on the whole well spaced. We had a very good spot on the ridge, with plenty of shade for what were the hottest two days of the summer, so far. The staff deserve a special mention as they were all very friendly and were taking very good care of the site. They even came round to the campers on more than one occasion doing 'welfare checks' to make sure we were OK in the extreme heat, that we had enough shade and water. That was very much appreciated. We live locally and will definitely be back.

Fantastic location in the heart of the forest.
What a brilliant location! You can pitch up where you want and there is shade or open ground depending on what you want. It was quite busy when we arrived but it was very quiet at night. The facilities are good and kept clean and the staff are all lovely. The on site shop is open in the morning and afternoon and is well stocked with basics as well as providing fresh pastries and bread. Beware of animals stealing your food! You really are in the heart of the forest here and you can see horses and deer and a variety of smaller animals and birds. What a fantastic spot. We can't wait to come back.

Great friendly and clean campsite
Lovely campsite, plenty of space, staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities always spotlessly clean, cannot fault it!

Very enjoyable - good location
First time I have camped at Holmsley and I enjoyed my recent stay. The facilities are all as expected at a Camping in the Forest site. The staff were all friendly and worked hard to look after the site and try and ensure everyone had an enjoyable stay. The site is ideally situated for accessing the New Forest (either walking or biking), making trips to the beach only 15 to 20 minutes away, or visits to Christchurch or Ringwood. Burley is a very nice touristy village just north of the campsite and Bransgore is convenient for local supplies. All in all a very nice convenient location in the New Forest.
Unit Type: Tent
I did ask for hardstanding which I got but could not peg out awning as most of the area was stones and concrete. Had more choice on where you could go on previous visits. Will choose a different site next time.
Unit Type: Camper Van
Loved it
I live this campsite. It has all the facilities you could need. Bathrooms clean and loads of drinking water points. I went on a Monday and there were quite a few campers but the site is so big you can have your privacy no problem. I highly recommend this campsite. I will definitely visit again.
