Any barbecues used on our sites should be specifically designed and used only for the purpose of cooking food (i.e. not firepits). They should be robust, secure and able to be raised off of the forest floor, there should be no damage or marks left on the ground where they have been used. In support of the New Forest Action Plan, we are asking campers not to bring disposable barbecues for their stay. We are also reminding campers that outside of our sites, no barbecues of any kind are now allowed anywhere in the New Forest.

Please do not feed, pet or approach the animals in and around the campsite; they may look friendly but are unpredictable and can bite and kick. Please keep all food sealed and out of reach of the ponies

Quiet and basic!
Nice site and very quiet when we visited. The chemical toilet site could be improved and certainly needs an inspection cover. Water point was seen to be mis-used, should be moved away from toilet point. The wildlife was very interesting. Plenty of walks to enjoy.

Two nights stay (midweek)
A nice quite site, with basic amenities! Good walks, from campsite! Only 2 miles from Lyndhurst!
Unit Type: Camper Van
Wonderful site
Matley Wood is a beautiful, peaceful site. Fabulous walks. Lovely ponies all in good health. The warden and staff were so polite, friendly and helpful

Lovely Quiet site
We had a lovely two night stay at the Matley Wood campsite, we went straight to the site and picked a pitch, and then walked up to Denny Wood campsite to book in. The walk took about 15 minutes each way, but the sun was shining so we made the most of it and enjoyed the pleasant walk. The lady who booked us in was very polite and gave us some information about the local area, and this was the only contact we had with any of the staff as we were then left to do as we pleased so to speak; which suited us. This was our first time camping on a campsite as we have up to now used pubs as one night park ups, but must say the beautiful surroundings of the New Forest are much better than a pub car park as you can imagine. The site appeared to be quite full and the only concern I had before arriving was that we wouldn't find a good pitch as we were arriving late on the Good Friday. However we drove in saw a pitch we liked straightaway (flat-ish and not totally covered by trees) close to the water tap, bins and chemical waste drop. We were also on a main cross over of tracks for the rest of the site and with people walking back and forth with water containers, and vehicles coming and going, you expect it to be noisy. However it was very quiet and peaceful on the site throughout our stay. We had our pedal bikes and made great use of them on both days, going out and exploring the area and viewing the wild life which is in abundance here in the New Forest. We took a walk in to Lyndhurst along the track and it took us a good 40-45 minutes each way, but it was worth it as we had a lovely well priced meal in a restaurant called The Forage, excellent service and very clean restaurant. Our first stay on a campsite and it was great, we are already looking at the next site to spend a weekend at in the New Forest. Highly recommend Matley Wood and will no doubt return one day,

Peaceful forest escape
I booked a weekend at Matley Wood last minute for some peace a quiet and to enjoy forest walks with my dog. Although there were plenty of other campers, the site was not crowded and I could find my own hide away, with space to feel at one with the woods. Easy access to water and bins and winding gravel tracks made it all easy. The birds, ponies and trees all around were idyllic. I had lots of great walks from the site and could pop into Lyndhurst for a cheeky coffee and cake . A wonderful weekend. The warden at Denny Wood was super friendly and helpful too. Will book agsin next season for sure.

Very relaxing
Lovely site lots of pitches and very easy access , Walked our dog straight into Forest then lots of paths to enjoy. Facilities basic but all we needed. Will return ASAP. Wardens always very helpful.
Unit Type: Caravan
Excellent friendly stay
Unit Type: Motorhome
First Morning an inconsiderate caravan owner decided to flout the rules and arrive outside my van at 7.15 am, 12am being the set arrival time, thus setting the dogs off and giving us a rude awakening, after another circuit to make sure of his spot he eventually began setting up lower down from us. I informed the warden and got no reply. So back to flouting the rules.....several dog owners thought they had the right to let their dogs roam free with out leads on, oblivious to the rules of camping in the forest. Unfortunately not having an on site warden has proved detrimental and spoilt our stay.
Unit Type: Caravan
Peaceful site
Lovely peaceful site with great walks into the forest. Only downside we booked an XL grass pitch but when we arrived no pitch markings and when we arrived nobody seemed aware of different pitch sizes. Felt I had been conned into paying extra . When mentioned to chap that came around to ensure we had checked in , was told to take it up with the company !!!! In my opinion he was the company representative and should have dealt with it . Needs some kind of managing of arrivals and pitches . Otherwise very quiet and peaceful spot to stay.
