Welcoming all campers, Ocknell is a staple campsite for all those wishing to enjoy all the New Forest has to offer. A beautiful campsite brimming with character, free-roaming New Forest ponies, history and charm, Ocknell is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

Our glorious Ocknell campsite combines tranquil spots set amongst the trees and ferns with spacious, open pitches, all bounded by the forest's trees.

Paths take off in all directions, weaving through the site and in and out of the trees, creating an almost secret garden-like feel to the site.

The site is perfect for children to play and explore, or as a base for taking off into the forest, while the views provided at any one spot are incredible and instantly warm the soul. Ocknell is the restful place you’ve been seeking.

Ocknell is in the northern half of the New Forest, around a 20 minute drive from Lyndhurst, the area's capital. A traditional English village, Lyndhurst's appeal is its many independent shops, cafes and pubs.

L
ike all of our New Forest sites, Ocknell offers direct access to the beautiful heathland and forest walks afforded by a stay in these ancient woodlands straight from your tent.

Any barbecues used on our sites should be specifically designed and used only for the purpose of cooking food (i.e not firepits). They should be robust, secure and able to be raised off of the forest floor, there should no damage or marks left on the ground where they have been used. In support of the New Forest Action Plan we are asking campers not to bring disposable barbecues for their stay. We are also reminding campers that outside of our sites no barbecues of any kind are now allowed anywhere in the New Forest.

Please do not feed, pet or approach the animals in and around the campsite; they may look friendly but are unpredictable and can bite and kick. Please keep all food sealed and out of reach of the ponies

Lovely friendly site

Arrived for our stay and was met by a friendly staff member who offered us useful info. Every one was friendly, staff, fellow campers, ponies and not forgetting the cheeky donkeys. Beautiful walks in all directions. The site has an interesting war time history.

Overall very good, a little different after lockdown
/
Overall our stay was very good. Staff very friendly and informative on arrive. Good amount of staff present during our stay checking the campsite etc. Facilities well maintained always fully stocked with toilet roll, hand sanitizer etc. The only thing I would mention is the feel of the site seems different to what I previously remember. I am guessing due to increase in demand with ' staycations' and maybe with guests that had not previously visited the New forest before. There was a lot of signage to take in on arrival and around the campsite itself. I feel it's a shame that there is more limitations on where tents can and can't go. I do understand this is probably due to increase in demand and needing to be able to manage the site more effectively however I feel it takes away from the experience of the site which I'd previously known. Also I have noticed over time that certain areas seemed to have become smaller such as the glades, again limiting the choice of camping. Overall though a positive visit!

Great Time
/
This is about the fifth time I have been to this site over the years, although usually with my elderly dogs, this is the first time without them so seemed a little strange but that aside I had a great time chilling and walking the many paths through the Forest and discovering some new ones. fully recommend Oknell site

Our favourite New Forest site
/
We’ve been to Ocknell several times and it still remains our favourite site. It’s pretty and peaceful (just some background road noise) and we love the ponies, donkeys and cows roam around. There are lots of little nooks to pitch in and because it doesn’t have showers it feels less busy. The staff are nice - shout out to Brian! The kids love exploring this site and had an amazing time. We walked to the Sir Walter Tyrrel pub, which is a nice walk and the High Corner Inn a short drive or cycle away is great.

Absolutely stunning
/
Just returned from our first stay at this beautiful campsite. Staff extremely helpful and welcoming. Facilities clean and well maintained. We picked a plot bit too open which meant busy road noise but this won’t stop us revisiting Plenty of beautiful walks, ponies, donkeys and cows walk freely which makes the whole experience magical. Thank you again

Peaceful forest site
/
We were encouraged to pitch in the Rally Field which was lovely and quiet with space to stay under the trees and close to nature. Each evening the site was visited by a lone buck as well as regular encounters with the ponies and the odd cow! It was lovely to be able to walk straight out into the forest from our pitch.

Quiet site
/
Lovely quiet site in a fantastic location for walking. Didnt use the car at all while we were there. Deer, cows, ponies and donkeys wandering the site daily. Toilet block very clean at all times. Only slight moan was that we were greeted very sternly and grilled about rules before we were allowed on. I understand this due to the animals, however there was no need for the attitude. Also the site is a strange shape and it took us a while to find a tent area. Would have been good for these to be pointed out on arrival like on other sites. Ground is really hard like on other sites in the area. Bring Rock pegs. Very weak 4g signal, so beware if this may be a problem for you. The sweet spot was near the toilet block. Would happily stay again though.
