In the idyllic setting of the ancient Savernake Forest, surrounded by a network of tracks and paths, lies the blissful Postern Hill campsite. Completely immersed in the woodlands with lush, flat green pitches, Postern Hill is a special place for anyone, whether you're a seasoned camper or just starting out.

Postern Hill is rich in everything ecological – from grand and ancient trees to a rich array of flora and fauna. In the summer Postern Hill is a hot spot for bats with one of the largest varieties in the UK. If you're camping during the winter months you may spot a deer or two roaming in the woodland. There are also plenty of noisy owls to be hear all year round!

Full of registered oak, beech and sweet chestnut trees, the forest boasts the largest beech avenue in Britain. The forest surrounding the site has been awarded with Site of Special Scientific Interest status due to the diversity of wildlife and plants found within the land.

Hugged by the tree-lined boundaries yet spread spaciously through the site are some of the most beautiful pitches in Wiltshire. Each spot feels like it’s been taken straight out of a secret garden, whether carved into the bushes or overlooked by the site’s many ancient oak trees, and all provide more than a glimpse of serenity.

Wherever you pitch up, you’ll be instantly surrounded by nature.

With the forest literally on your caravan door step you can take full advantage of  the many walking and cycling opportunities it offers. Made up of four valleys and more than 4,500 acres of woodlands, Savernake Forest also offers plenty of stunning views, picnic stops and places for contemplation.

Postern Hill campsite is just a 20-minute walk from the pretty market town of Marlborough where you'll find a range of characterful cafes, restaurants and pubs each offering delectable food and enticing tipples. For shoppers there's a plentiful choice of well-known high street stores as well as a number of independents offering something slightly more unique.

For a complete ‘get away from it all’ break, visit Postern Hill. Bathed in tranquillity, it will entice you back year after year.

Please note that there are no showers at this campsite.

Beautiful site
We stayed at Postern Hill campsite for 6 nights 18th-24th June 2022 The beautifully kept, no rubbish, toilets always clean and tidy. Staff are around during the day and always give a cheery wave Would definitely come back . Thank you for a lovely week.
Unit Type: Caravan
Beautiful site, ok there’s no showers but MH has one. Lovely walks in the forest with the dogs, BUY a map from reception £2 !! Didn’t go down to Marlborough as we are semi local anyway but Tesco is only a ten minute walk. The two wardens on duty while we were there were very helpful and friendly as most of the Welsh are in my opinion. Definitely will return
Unit Type: Motorhome
Wonderful campsite
It’s so refreshing to stay on such a relaxed campsite. To be able to arrive anytime after 10am and to be able to park anywhere and facing any direction. The site is lovely, well maintained, lots of shade if needed which we did when we visited and I loved the informal path to Marlborough Lastly the staff were amongst the friendliest we have met We look forward to coming back

Peaceful and friendly
A lovely site in the forest, very peaceful. Loads of lovely walks in Savenake forest and a safe walk into Marlborough. The staff were very friendly and they make lovely pizzas. Facilities were clean.

3 nights, look forward to the next !
fabulous welcome - these people do what they can to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. We stayed 3 nights mid-week and we'll definitely go again! the check-out is 11am but for only £3 can extend to 3pm - that's great value! easily accessible water/waste areas and waste-bins include recycling & non-R/C unlike many places. Great extras on offer such as ice-lollies, coffee, pizza, you can re-freeze your ice packs etc. Off-the-ground BBQs permitted. Very clean loos/basins. No showers but perhaps this is why it didn't get overcrowded - one reason we don't return to other sites. Chose our own spot and we were all so nicely spaced apart with the min 6m fire-safety - no squeezing in. other people on site were relaxed, happy and friendly. nice & quiet, can only slightly hear the road-noise but big trees & shrubs mask it, we quickly forgot it was there. great sleep! beautifully maintained tidy site, lovely trees so as well as being picturesque, there's shade to be had too. It's rare for me to take a photo of a site but I took plenty and shared to friends as it was so pretty. Can walk through gate directly into the Savernake forest, or just 10mins walk to the nearby Tesco or 20mins walk into Marlborough.

Always good
This is one of our regular stopovers when journeying west. Lovely site with good facilities, wardens are super helpful. For the first time ever we ordered freshly baked croissants for breakfast, highly recommended as are the freshly baked sausage rolls. TV reception on Freeview remains problematic but hey in these glorious surroundings who cares. We'll be back.
Unit Type: RV Motorhome
Lovely site, in a beautiful setting with excellent wardens who were very welcoming. All this despite atrocious weather - but will definitely go again.

Great site
1st visit to this site and it didn't disappoint. The staff are very freindly and helpfull and they supply freshly baked pastries in the morning from reception which are delightful. We visited over the Jubilee Bank Holiday and the site was busy as we expected but everyone was well spaced out and we found a lovely spot right in the middle, well away from the roadway. The site is well sheltered with mature trees all around. There is direct access into the woods which offers great walking, alot of wide stoned paths suitable for all, and lots of room for the dog to roam. Tescos is a 10 minute walk downhill through the woods and the centre of Marlborough only another few minutes further walking, although it's quite a climb back to site with your shopping! Given this site is just 25 minutes from my home, we will definitely be returning. Not sure why we have not visited before!
Unit Type: Caravan
Very Relaxing and Enjoyable
Lovely warm welcome and lots of helpful information on arrival. Although the site was busy we found a great pitch with hook up which had fab evening sun. Easy access to all facilities and the site was peaceful and quiet after dark Only stopped for one night but will certainly visit again for a longer stay
Unit Type: Camper Van
Brilliant as usual
This is a regular stopover on our journey from East Suffolk to Penzance. A quiet almost secluded place. One of the first things we saw when driving to our pitch was a deer grazing amongst the trees. Freeview signal is almost nonexistent so be warned if that is your poison. The welcome is warm and helpful, for us this ticks every box.
