Family Camping Holidays in the UK
You need a break, the kids need somewhere to run, and run, and run. Even if just for a weekend, a quick getaway to the countryside can benefit everyone, no matter how old they are, and this makes camping a perfect solution for the family.
When you’re looking for the perfect family camping holiday, anywhere in the country with good facilities will do – after all, you are in the outdoors with the most important people in your life.
There are, however, a few things that can make family camping extra special. An on-site shop means you’ll never have to nip out for the bits you forgot, a play area means you adults can (maybe) have a quiet drink, pet friendly means no canine friend is left behind and large open spaces mean games will never have to be missed.
All 16 of our campsites are perfect for family camping, with quick access to the forest and stunning areas where the kids can learn about nature. However, some offer a few extras that can always help, and we’ve listed those campsites below.
Our top five family camping sites
Family friendly Hollands Wood, New Forest
600 pitches worth of space amongst the trees and in the open make Hollands wood a firm family favourite when it comes to camping. Top that off with toilet and shower facilities (and all the added benefits of a campsite in the New Forest) and you’ve got a beautiful family camping experience.
Family camping holidays at Holmsley
Where do we start? Well, if the kids are happy then so are you – solve that with an on-site play area (as well as a significant 600 pitches that leave plenty of room for a makeshift football pitch).
An onsite shop, premium pitches, toilet and shower facilities and the stunningly natural New Forest environment all add up to one thing: a family camping must.
Ashurst, New Forest
Picked for its natural beauty and plethora of opportunities for forest exploration, Ashurst campsite is set up perfectly for the family. Pitch up and soak in the good forest vibes.
Something for everyone at Beddgelert, Snowdonia
Snowdonia is the perfect place to get the family to connect with nature, with a vast and diverse landscape from mountain ranges to coastlines. If that’s true (and it is) then Beddgelert is the place to stay. The Welsh Highland Railway stops right outside the site, which is also just a ten minute drive from Snowdon.
Pet friendly with a play area, toilet and shower facilities and the surrounding Beddgelert forest – need we say more?
Family fun by the water at Cashel, Loch Lomond
One of the best places to get the family together in the outdoors, Cashel sits right on the shores of the expansive Loch Lomond. With direct access to the forest and lake, the nearby outdoor adventure company Go Country, and full toilet and shower facilities, if you’re looking for family camping in Scotland, then this is your site.
